Open Links in Background or New Page on iPhone and iPad

By Hally | Last Updated

You may have the different experience on browsing websites between safari and Chrome browsers in iPhone and iPad. As to open a link in a new tab, Chrome will make the link opened in the background, which enables you to keep reading the page that you were on. However, Safari browser will directly take you to the new tab, which is inconvenient for us to go further on the previous page. Therefore, here we will introduce 2 methods to help you open links in background or in new page/tab when you are using Safari on your iPhone or iPad.

2 ways to open links in background or new page on iPhone and iPad:

Way 1: Open a link in background or new page via the link itself.

On the webpage in Safari, press and hold a link until a menu shows up, and then click Open in New Page (see Pic. 1) or Open in Background (see Pic. 2) from the options.

tap open in new page
