Take two ways to do a clean reinstall on Windows 10 without product key:

Way 1: Clean reinstall Windows 10 from PC Settings

1. Click Start > Settings in accessible Windows 10.

open windows 10 settings app from start menu

2. In Settings windows, click on Get started under Update & security > Recovery > Reset this PC.

choose update and recovery option in settings window

Way 2: Clean Reinstall Windows 10 with a Bootable Windows 10 USB

If you have created a Windows 10 bootable USB for reinstall, such as a bootable Windows 10 USB created with Rufus or Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool and Windows 10 ISO image file. Now just connect it to Windows 10. Open the bootable USB and you would find the Windows 10 setup program.

Or if you have Windows 10 ISO image file, browse to the folder containing ISO file in Windows 10, right-click on it and click Mount to open the contents of ISO image file, where you will also find the system setup program.

1. Double-click the Setup.exe file and Yes on pop-up UAC dialog to run Windows 10 setup program.

run windows 10 setup file as administrator

2. You will see Get important updates screen later. Click Download and install updates (recommended) if internet connection is available, or you can also check “I want to help make the installation of Windows better”. Click Next.

choose to download and install important updates

3. Windows will begin to check updates and then you will see License terms screen where you need to click on Accept button and go on.

begin to check updates

4. Then the setup would look for updates and download them. And you would see the following Making sure you are ready to install screen for a few minutes. At the same time, the setup program checks whether your PC can run Windows 10 and also checks if there is sufficient space required for the operation.

5. You will see the Choose what to keep or Ready to install screen at last.

If you get the Ready to install screen, click the link labeled Change what to keep, and then select Nothing if you need to clean reinstall Windows 10 later.

Once Windows 10 installation is done, you will be able to customize Windows system settings, such as change your country, language, keyboard layout and time zone for the new and clean Windows 10 system.

So on following screen, please click on Customize settings link instead of the large Use Express Settings button to change default privacy settings. Or you can change these settings later under Settings app. Then you will be asked to sign in using Microsoft account. If no Microsoft account is available, you can create one now or create a new local user account.

customize windows 10 settings

Tips:

1. Generally you will not be asked to activate Windows 10 again after the reinstallation if you are using an activated install of Windows 10.

2. If you really face any questions about Windows 10 activation, please chat with Microsoft support and solve it.

3. Through steps above, believe you have successfully reinstalled windows 10 without product key. But if Windows 10 is locked, probably you would need Windows 10 product key or license to reinstall a new clean system.

Similarity and Differences:

Lock screen and login screen seem to be two doors to Windows 10 computer. But they are different, even though they appear usually in the same case.

windows 10 lock screen and login screen

  1. Lock screen shows some information, while login screen mainly requires login user and password.
  2. Lock screen and login screen show at different moment.

For example, when you start Windows 8/8.1/10 computer, generally you see lock screen at first, and then login screen. Just need to enter login user password and you could access computer. While you need to unlock locked Windows 10 after sign-in with user password, now both lock screen and login screen would appear again.

Note: From above introductions, maybe you can see the lock screen is redundant if you have no information shown on the screen. So you can disable lock screen if you think so. Moreover, you can skip the login screen and directly sign in Windows 10 without any obstacle. But this is not recommended from point of view about computer security.

Now let’s see what we can do or see on Windows 10 lock screen and login screen.

What can you do with lock screen?

1. Show a background or slideshow after computer boots up.

Open the Settings menu then go to Personalization > Lock screen > Background and choose Picture or Slideshow from the dropdown menu.

change windows 10 lock screen background

2. Display notifications and detailed status information from a variety of apps.

Open the Settings menu and go to Personalization > Lock screen > Choose an app to show detailed status or Choose apps to show quick statuses. You can then click or tap a box to pick an app.

show app stats on windows 10 lock screen

3. Look up stats and make appointments without unlocking your device.

Put Cortana on the lock screen and you can look up the information or the weather even you are locked out of device.

Open Cortana and go to Settings > Lock screen > Use Cortana even when my device is locked. And check the box next to Let Cortana access my calendar, email, messages, and Power BI data when my device is locked.

What can you do on login screen?

1. Access Windows 10 with a login user, local account or Microsoft account.

2. Lock computer with incorrect password.

3. Switch login user, or sign-in options.

Two options are available under “Require sign-in” section, “Never” and “When PC wakes up from sleep”. If you select Never, your PC will not ask you to enter a password when you resume it from sleep. But if you set it to “When PC wakes up from sleep”, you would enable password login after sleep in Windows 10.

Note: If you need a quick way to fix the same problem for all Windows 7/8 computer, follow the way 2 in canceling wake up password topic.

Besides above ways, I have another method to share with you to disable password login in Windows 10 after waking up from sleep, especially when you forgot windows 10 password to access computer.

If you have added Microsoft account for Windows 10 logon, believe you can see an email account on your computer login screen, and it usually requires password if you decide to access computer with it. Suppose you can remember the email account password, nothing is problem. But if password forgot, how can you do? You would have to reset or change the email login password. Otherwise, you would be unable to login Windows 10 with email account.

Now this post will show two ways that can change Windows 10 email login password no matter you forgot the email password or not.

Way 1: Change Windows 10 Email Login Password on Microsoft

If Internet access is available, this way is free and the best for you to change Windows 10 login password for Microsoft email account.

Way 2: Change Windows 10 Email Password for Login in Computer

It is different from that way Microsoft provides online and usually requires a fee. But it can work for Windows 10 login password change not only for email account but also for local and domain user accounts.

Step 1: Create a password reset disk on another accessible computer.

1. Find the password reset disk creation tool, iSunshare Windows Password Genius Advanced.

2. Install and run it on your another accessible PC or laptop.

3. Insert the writable USB flash drive into the PC or laptop.

select media type to create reset disk

5. Click button “Begin burning” to format USB flash drive first and then burn a password reset disk into it.

Note: Maybe you think you can create a password reset disk when Windows 10 computer is available and use it to reset login password. That’s true. But it doesn’t apply to email account, only works for local admin or user accounts. And the password reset disk you create with above software can be booted from locked Windows computer and reset or change password for all of accounts, including administrator accounts and email accounts.

Step 2: Change login password for email account in locked Windows 10 computer.

1. Plug the bootable USB password recovery disk into locked Windows 10 computer.

2. Restart or turn on locked computer and press boot option key when vendor logo appears.

3. Select USB drive on Boot Menu to successfully boot computer from USB flash drive.

Step 2: Set process priority in Processes tab.

In Task Manager window, the task bar has few tabs. Click the Processes tab, and you can see a list of all processes along with their priority, memory and description.

You can change the priority of process by right-clicking it and selecting its priority as High, Normal, Low etc.

Note: However, when you close the process and restart computer, the priority of the process is set to default “Normal“. It means only changing process priority via Task Manager cannot permanently setting programs priority.

But it means you cannot do that? Surely it is not. If you get Prio, the Process Priority Control to install on your computer, set program priority permanent is not a problem any longer.

Prio will save the applied changes, and each time you start this process from now on, it will set the saved priority for it. You will not have to change the priority manually any more.

Just open Task Manager after Prio installation and computer restart, and right click the process, you can see option “Save Priority” has been checked by default.

Note: But if you don’t want to save the CPU priority for programs you set this time after you start the program again, you can right click the program and uncheck “Save Priority”.
