As it is known to us, the BIOS password is useful in protecting computer safety and can prevent other people from changing BIOS settings as well as booting the computer’operating system. However, what should we do if we forget the BIOS password to our computers? This article will recommend the following 3 ways for you to remove the BIOS password.

Way 1: Remove the BIOS Password by Removing the CMOS Battery

Step 1. Turn off the computer and unplug the power cable.

Step 2. Open the computer’host case, locate the motherboard and find out the small coin-sized silver CMOS battery as the following picture shows.

Step 3. Remove the CMOS Battery carefully if it isn’t soldered to the motherboard and then put it back after 10-30 minutes.

Step 4. Boot the computer. If the “CMOS Checksum Error-Defaults Loaded” message is displayed, it indicates that the BIOS password has been reset successfully.

Way 2: Remove the BIOS Password via Adjusting the Motherboard Jumper

Step 1. Find out the Motherboard Jumper by reading the motherboard manual, or look for the Jumper labeled with CLR, CLEAR, CLEAR CMOS, etc. FYI, there are 3 pins and the Jumper will join the center pin and the left/right pin.

Step 2. Move the Jumper to join the center pin and another pin, which means if the center pin is joined with the left pin, just move the Jumper to join the center pin and the right pin.

Step 3. Move the Jumper to connect the center pin and the original pin again after a few seconds.

Way 3: Remove the BIOS Password with the BIOS Backdoor Password

Tips: The Dell computer is taken as an instance here.

Step 1. Start the Dell computer and immediately press F2 in a continuous way to enter the BIOS.
Note: About other brand computers’BIOS backdoor passwords, you can search them on the Internet because they are changed at times by their manufacturers.

Step 2. Type Dell into the “BIOS Password” prompt interface and hit the Enter button. Then you will be taken to the main BIOS screen.

Step 3. Select Restore Defaults from the BIOS menu and press the Enter button. This step will restore your BIOS back to its original settings.

Step 4. Choose the Save Changes and Exit option. After that, hit the Enter button.
