With the purpose of protecting the ThinkPad safety and preventing the information leakage, more and more people intend to set a BIOS password to their ThinkPads<\/strong><\/a>. Do you know how to set it? If you don\u2019t, read and study the ways introduced in the following sections of this text.<\/p>\n

In the BIOS setup interface of the X, T, R, A series of ThinkPad, generally speaking, you can set three kinds of passwords which are the power on password, supervisor password and hard disk password. Now, the steps to create them are respectively illustrated as below.<\/p>\n

1. Procedures to create a power on password<\/h2>\n

Step 1: Open the ThinkPad and continuously press F1<\/strong> to enter the BIOS Setup Utility screen.<\/p>\n

Step 2: Select Password<\/strong> by the arrow key, then choose Power On password<\/strong> and click Enter<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Step 3: As a prompt box appears, type a password with no more than 7 characters in it, press Enter<\/strong> to move to the next line, retype the password and click Enter<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Step 4: When the system prompts that changes have been saved, hit Enter<\/strong> to continue.<\/p>\n

Step 5: Press F10<\/strong> and Enter<\/strong> to save the changes and exit. Then, after restarting the ThinkPad, you will be required to input the password.<\/p>\n

2. Processes to set a supervisor password<\/h2>\n

Step 1: Boot the computer and press F1<\/strong> repeatedly until entering the BIOS Setup Utility interface.<\/p>\n

Step 2: Choose Password<\/strong> with arrow key on the keyboard, select Supervisor Password<\/strong> in the list and click Enter<\/strong> to move to the next step.<\/p>\n

Step 3: Input a password consisted of 1 to 7 characters in the prompt box, click Enter<\/strong> so as to re-input the code for verification and press Enter<\/strong> again to go on.<\/p>\n

Step 4: After it prompts that changes have been saved, click Enter<\/strong> to confirm Continue.<\/p>\n

Step 5: Press F10<\/strong>, and then hit Enter<\/strong> to save the configuration changes and exit.<\/p>\n

3. Tutorial to set a hard disk password<\/h2>\n

Step 1: Start the ThinkPad. When the ThinkPad icon comes out, continually press F1<\/strong> until the BIOS setup interface turns up.<\/p>\n

Step 2: Select Password in the screen, choose Hard Disk1 Password<\/strong> or Hard Disk 2 Password<\/strong> and press Enter<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Step 3: Type a code within 7 characters, hit Enter<\/strong>, retype the code and click Enter<\/strong> one more time.<\/p>\n

Step 4: When the changes have been saved, press Enter<\/strong> to move on.<\/p>\n

Step 5: Press F10<\/strong> and Enter<\/strong> to exit and reboot the computer.<\/p>\n

As you can see from the above, the setting steps of creating the power on password, supervisor password and hard disk password are almost the same. So it is easy for you to memorize all of their setup steps if you remember one of them. What\u2019s more, you must remember the BIOS password to ThinkPad all the time. If you forget it, the result may be costly.<\/p>\n
