In this post, we would talk about how to create a Linux debian bootable USB disk with different operating systems.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#part1\">Part 1: Create a Linux debian bootable USB disk with Mac <\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#part2\">Part 2: Create a Linux debian bootable USB disk with Linux <\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#part3\">Part 3: Create a Linux debian bootable USB disk with Windows <\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Preparations:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.debian.org\/distrib\/\">Linux debian ISO files<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A USB drive with enough free space.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"part1\">Part 1: Create a Linux debian bootable USB disk with Mac<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Step 1<\/strong>:\u00a0Open a terminal. Before inserting the USB key, check which disks are available with the under commands.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>diskutil list<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Typically, you can see all the disks in your Mac.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.isunshare.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/disk-list-command-show-you-all-disks.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"758\" height=\"193\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5514\" src=\"https:\/\/www.isunshare.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/disk-list-command-show-you-all-disks.png\" alt=\"disk list command show you all disks\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.isunshare.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/disk-list-command-show-you-all-disks.png 758w, https:\/\/www.isunshare.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/disk-list-command-show-you-all-disks-300x76.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 758px) 100vw, 758px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 2<\/strong>:\u00a0Insert the USB drive. Type the \u201cdiskutil list\u201d command again. You should see one more disk which is your USB drive.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 3<\/strong>: Then we should convert the ISO file to an image by using the under command.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>hdiutil convert -format UDRW -o debian-8.0.0-amd64-netinst.img debian-8.0.0-amd64-netinst.iso<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 4<\/strong>: Remove the default file extention added by\u00a0Hdiutil with the under command.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>mv debian-8.0.0-amd64-netinst.img.dmg debian-8.0.0-amd64-netinst.img<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 5<\/strong>: Write the image to the USB drive with under command.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><em>sudo dd if=debian-8.0.0-amd64-netinst.img of=\/dev\/disk2 bs=1m<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Attention: In this case, \/dev\/disk2 is my USB drive name, the debian-8.0.0-amd64-netinst means the debian version, you should adapt it to your condition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Once the Linux debian bootable USB disk is created, the Mac OS will ask you if you want to eject it. just click yes. Then this disk is ready to use.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"part2\">Part 2: Create a Linux debian bootable USB disk with Linux<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Step 1<\/strong>:\u00a0Mount your USB drive and make sure\u00a0Linux recognizes your device.<\/p>\n<p>Typically, you can find your USB drive in the path \/dev\/sd* once you mount it to Linux. Be aware of that sometimes the name of your USB drive would be displayed on <strong>sdb<\/strong> or <strong>sdc<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 2<\/strong>: Localize your IOS file just downloaded in Linux.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019ve downloaded Debian to your Downloads under home directory, it should look similar to:<\/p>\n<p><a your Linux debian bootable disk is ready.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"part3\">Part 3: Create a Linux debian bootable USB disk with Windows<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Step 1<\/strong>: Insert a 2GB or larger Flash Drive for Debian Live installation requirements.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 2<\/strong>:\u00a0Download a Debain img and save it to your desktop.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 3<\/strong>:\u00a0Download the Win32 DiskImager and extract its content to a folder on your computer desktop.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 4<\/strong>: Run the Win32Diskmager.<\/p>\n<p>You would simply find a prompt telling you that an error occurred when attempting to get the device information.\u00a0Just click <strong>OK<\/strong> to continue.<\/p>\n<p><a
