How to Restore iOS Device Data from iCloud or iTunes

When would you need to restore iOS device from backup?

  1. 1. Data lost because of operation error on iOS device.
  2. 2. After iOS is upgraded to newer version.
  3. 3. Some time you want to restore iOS device to solve an issue.

How could you restore iOS device from iCloud or iTunes backup?

According to the iOS data backup methods, we can know that, iOS data could be restored by these methods, iCloud and iTunes.

Part 1: Restore iOS device from iTunes backup

If you have backup iOS with iTunes, restore iOS device from iTunes backup on computer.

1. Connect iOS (eg. iPad) to computer where installed with iTunes. iPad options would be open in iTunes automatically. If it is iPhone, you will be prompted to turn off Find My iPhone before restoring backup data.

2. Click Summary button, and in Backups part, you could see Restore Backup option.

3. Click Restore Backup, choose a backup and type a password to unlock iPad/iPhone backup.

4. iPad would be restored to the backup point. The backup data will be transfered to connected iPad.

Part 2: Restore iOS device from iCloud backup

If you have backup iOS to iCloud, now you could restore iOS device from iCloud backup.

1. Open iPad and make sure it has been installed with newest iOS. If not, go to Settings > General > Software Update to download and install it.

2. Make sure there is a recent backup to restore from. Go to Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup, then look at the bottom of the screen for the message Last Backup, followed by the date of the latest backup.

3. Go to Settings > General > Reset, then tap "Erase all content and settings".

4. In the Setup Assistant, proceed to "Set up your device", tap Restore from a Backup, then sign in to iCloud.

5. Proceed to Choose backup, then choose from a list of available backups in iCloud.

If you have a new iOS device, also you can set it up from an iCloud backup.

1. Turn on your iOS device.

2. From the apps Apps & Data screen, tap Restore from iCloud Backup, then sign in to iCloud.

3. Proceed to Choose backup, then choose from a list of available backups in iCloud.
