Part 1: New Features in iOS 17

iOS 17 will announce major upgrades to programs like FaceTime, Standby Mode, NameDrop, Siri, and Maps, as well as minor upgrades to the other parts of the operating system.

1. "Hey Siri" Shortened to “Siri”

Apple has simplified voice commands to invoke “Siri” on iPhone and other Apple devices. Instead of "Hey Siri," users can now activate the voice assistant by simply saying “Siri”. With Siri activated, you can make multiple requests in a row without having to reactivate it.

2. StandBy Mode

"StandBy" is a new mode that displays a full-screen view, designed to be viewed from a distance while the iPhone is charging on its side. The customizable interface displays various styles of clocks, calendars, favorite photos, weather forecasts, music playback controls, widgets, and more.

3. Download maps to use offline

In iOS 17, Apple Maps implemented the ability to download maps for offline use. When the iPhone is not connected to a network, users can download specific map areas and access features such as turn-by-turn navigation, view the estimated time of arrival, find locations, and more.

4. FaceTime Poster

The FaceTime feature in iOS 17 lets users create personalized contact posters that can be customized with photos, fonts, and background colors. When an incoming call comes in, the poster is displayed on the other person's iPhone.

You may also notice that Apple has added an "F" button to this feature, what is the F on Facetime iOS 17? It's a new feature that allows users to blur the background during a call.

5. Interactive Widgets

Interactive widgets are now available on the iPhone home screen, lock screen and the new standby view. This includes marking reminders as completed, playing or pausing songs, and controlling accessories in the Home app.

6. Exchange numbers with NameDrop

Just hold your iPhones close together to initiate a transfer. You can hold your iPhone close to someone else's iPhone or Apple Watch to use NameDrop, and you can choose the phone numbers or email addresses you want to share, as well as the contact posters.

7. Live Voicemail

When someone leaves you a voicemail, Live Voicemail provides a live transcription on the screen. If you think the voicemail is important, you can take the call while the caller leaves a voicemail. In addition, voices recognized as spam by the operator will not be transcribed but will be rejected immediately.

8. Keyboard Autocorrect

iOS 17 includes an advanced language model for word prediction that will dramatically improve automatic error correction on iPhone. As you type, your device will intelligently correct errors with greater accuracy than ever before. In addition, you will receive embedded predictive text suggestions as you type and can add words or complete sentences with just a tap of the space bar.

Part 2: Devices for iOS 17

iOS 17 will be compatible with iPhone XS and later, as well as iPhone SE (2nd generation or later). After further refinement based on developer feedback, it is expected to be publicly released alongside the iPhone 15 this fall.
