When copying or moving folders in Windows 10, you might encounter situations where the destination already contains a folder with the same name. By default, Windows merges the contents without prompting. However, you can configure Windows to notify you of such conflicts, allowing you to decide whether to merge or keep both folders. This article will guide you through the steps to enable or disable folder merge conflict notifications in Windows 10.
Step 1: Enter File Explorer Options.
Step 2: Open View, Locate the option Hide folder merge conflicts in the Advanced settings. To enable notifications, uncheck this box. To hide folder merge conflicts (default setting), check this box. After that, click OK.
If you uncheck this option, Windows will prompt you when a folder merge conflict occurs, giving you control over the merging process.
Step 1: Open Registry Editor on your Windows 10.
Step 2: Navigate to the Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
Step 3: In the right pane, find the HideMergeConflicts DWORD. Double-click to change its value: 0 for enable and 1 for disable.
Step 4: Hit the OK button to save the change.
