Booting into Safe Mode in Windows 10 is a common way to troubleshoot system issues. But what happens when you get stuck in Safe Mode—especially if you don’t have the password to log back in?
Don’t worry. This guide will show you why this happens and how to get out of Safe Mode in Windows 10 without needing the original login password.
When Safe Mode is enabled through System Configuration (msconfig), Windows will keep booting into Safe Mode until the setting is manually turned off. If you're locked out due to a forgotten password, you'll be unable to log in and exit normally.
Step 1: Get a Windows installation media. If you do not have one, visit Microsoft official website and download Windows Media Creation Tool to create one on another accessible computer.
Step 2: Shutdown your Windows 10 computer and then insert the Windows installation media.
Step 3: Restart your computer and press the BIOS key (F2 or Del) to access the BIOS menu. After that, set your Windows installation media as the first boot option.
Step 4: When the Windows Setup wizard comes, press Shift +F10 to open Command Prompt.
Step 5: In Command Prompt, type: bcdedit /deletevalue {default} safeboot to remove the Safe Mode boot flag.
Step 6: When the command runs successfully, close the window and exit Windows installation process. After that, plug out the Windows installation media and restart your computer. At this time, your Windows 10 computer would boot into Windows normally.
You can get the bootable password reset software, such as iSunshare Windows Password Genius, to remove the forgotten password and then boot into Windows to disable safe mode. iSunshare Windows Password Genius can also help create administrator account without login.

1. Can I exit Safe Mode without logging in?
Yes. If you access Command Prompt through Recovery Mode, you can disable Safe Mode using a simple command: bcdedit /deletevalue {current} safeboot, even without logging into the desktop. But it needs you to enter the administrator account password before running Command Prompt.
2. What if you don’t have the password to exit safe mode?
If your account is password-protected and you're stuck in Safe Mode, you won’t be able to access the desktop to change settings—unless you use password reset tool, such as iSunshare Windows Password Genius, to remove the login password.
