How to Switch Users in Windows 10

If you do not want to shut down the computer and then start from another user account on your computer, you can quickly switch to another user if you have created multiple local accounts in the computer. And here, we will share effective ways to switch user accounts in Windows 10.

Way 1: Switch Users at Login Screen

For the Windows 10 computer which is shared by multiple users in the school or company, multiple user accounts are created. Generally, the most recent user account is displayed on the center. You can check other user accounts on the bottom left corner. If you want to switch to your account, you can choose it from list and sign in your account.

What can you do if the Windows 10 computer is signed in, how can you go back to the login screen to change the user? Just press Windows and L keys on your keyboard at the same time. Then the lock screen displays. You can hit anywhere to return to the login in screen to switch the users. In this way, you preserve what others are working and start your own work.

Way 2: Switch Users from Start Menu

Just go to hit on the Start button on your Windows 10 computer. Then you can find the user icon on the top-left corner in the start menu. Click the current user and then choose another user on the pop-up menu. After that, you will be guided to the login in screen of the selected user. Then you can enter the user password to login Windows.

Way 3: Switch Users via Shut Down Windows Dialog

If Fast User Switching is enabled on your Windows, you can press Alt + F4 keys to open Shut Down Windows dialog. After that, click the down arrow, choose Switch user in the list and hit OK. Then you can return the login screen to select a user to sign in.

Way 4: Switch Users via Ctrl + Alt + Del Combination

You can also press Ctrl + Alt +Del keys together to get Switch user option which is shown below. Then click Switch User and you are in the Windows 10 login screen.

It is also easy to switch users with the command line “tsdiscon”. You can open command prompt and then execute the command line to return Windows login screen, where you can choose another user to log in.

Way 6: Create Switch User Shortcut to Switch Users Account

For the tech- savvy, it is much faster for them to switch user accounts if there is a shortcut of Switch User on the Windows 10 desktop. You can create such a shortcut with below operations.

Step 1: Right-tap blank area, choose New in the menu and click Shortcut on the sub-list.

Step 2: Enter %windir%\system32\tsdiscon.exe and hit Next in the Create Shortcut window.
