4 Ways to Enable and Disable Built-in Guest on Windows 10

Way 1: Enable or disable the Guest account by turning it on or off.

Part 1: Turn on Guest account.

Step 1: Click the Start button, type guest in the search box and tap Turn guest account on or off.

Step 2: Click Guest in the Manage Accounts window.

Step 3: Choose Turn on.

Part 2: Turn off Guest account.

Step 1: Click the Search button, input guest and tap Turn guest account on or off.

Step 2: Tap Guest to continue.

Step 3: Click Turn off the guest account.

Way 2: Enable or disable the account in the Local Group Policy.

Step 1: Open Local Group Policy Editor.

Step 2: Find and open the policy named "Accounts: Guest account status".

In detail, it is located in Computer Configuration/Windows Settings/Security Settings/Local Policies/Security Options.

Step 3: Enable or disable the policy.

1. Select Enabled and click OK to enable it.

2. Choose Disabled and tap OK to have it disabled.

Way 3: Enable or disable the built-in Guest account via Command Prompt.

Step 1: Run Command Prompt as administrator.

Sub-step 1: Click Start button and type cmd in the search box to find Command Prompt.

Sub-step 2: Right-tap Command Prompt and choose Run as administrator.

Sub-step 3: Choose Yes in the User Account Control dialog.

Step 2: Enable or disable the account with a command.

1. To enable this account, type "net user guest /active:yes" (without quotes) and press Enter.

2. Input "net user guest /active:no" (without quotes) and hit Enter to disable it.

Way 4: Enable or disable Guest account in Computer Management.

Step 1: Open Computer Management.

Press Windows+R to open Run, type compmgmt.msc and click OK to open it.

Step 2: Find and open the Guest account.

FYI, you can locate Guest in Local Users and Groups/Users.

Step 3: Enable or disable it.

1. Deselect Account is disabled and click OK in the Guest Properties dialog to enable it.

2. Select Account is disabled and tap OK to disable it.
