By default, there are two options including Restart and Shut down in the Power Options Menu on Windows 10 computer. However, it doesn't mean that it is impossible to add new option to this menu. In this article, you can learn how to add Hibernate to the Power Options Menu, as shown in the following screen shot.
Before adding Hibernate to the Power menu, ensure that the hibernation feature is enabled:
Step 1: Open Command Prompt as administrator.
Step 2: Type the following command and press Enter: powercfg /hibernate on . This command enables the hibernation feature on your system.
Step 1: Open Control Panel.
Step 2: Type power in the top-right search box, and click Change what the power buttons do in the results.
Step 3: Tap Change settings that are currently unavailable to continue.
Step 4: Check the small box before Hibernate in shutdown settings, and hit Save changes. The Hibernate option should now appear in your Start menu under the Power options.
Step 1: Open Local Group Policy Editor.
Step 2: Find the setting named "Show hibernate in the power options menu".
In detail, this setting is located in Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/Windows Components/File Explorer.
Step 3: Double-click the above setting, choose Enabled and tap OK in the setting's window.
1. Why is the Hibernate option missing from my Power menu?
The Hibernate option might be disabled by default. Enabling it via the Command Prompt and adjusting the Power Options settings as described above should restore it.
2. Can I enable Hibernate using a registry file?
Yes, you can add or remove the Hibernate option by modifying the registry.
3. What will happen if I click Hibernate option in power menu?
If you do that, hibernate saves your session to the hard disk and powers off the computer, using no power but taking slightly longer to resume.
With either of these two methods, you can easily show Hibernate in the Power Options Menu on your Windows 10 computer, providing an efficient way to save your session and conserve power.
