Fix: Firefox Add-ons Remove Button Not Working

Mozilla Firefox allows users to install types of add-ons in different ways, including from the Firefox Add-ons and other programs on your computer. Way 1: Uninstall Firefox add-ons under Safe Mode

Users tend to install add-ons and this would likely lead to a conflict between different component. The security mode is typically used to diagnose the cause of a bug when the Firefox problem is out. So, let's go forward to uninstall under Safe Mode.

Step 1: Click on three parallel lines at the top-right corner, select Help from the dropdown then clicks Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

Step 2: In the pop-up Restart with Add-ons Disabled window, tap Restart button to disable add-ons and restart Firefox browser. Then you will see the Firefox Safe Mode dialog, click on Start in Safe Mode to continue.

Step 3: Once the Firefox restart in Safe Mode, navigate to Menu > Add-ons. Remove add-ons and restart Firefox again.

Tips: Keep holding the Shift key while Firefox is launching can get into Safe Mode directly.

Way 2: Delete Firefox add-ons from Windows Control Panel

Sometimes, parts of add-ons are installed from third-party programs. When you encounter this situation, you can uninstall add-ons in Windows Control Panel.

Step 1: Input Control Panel in the search bar and hit Enter.

Step 2: In the Control Panel window, navigate to Programs > Programs and Features. Located to the add-on and right-click and select Uninstall.

Way 3: Uninstall add-ons by deleting extension file manually

If the two ways we have mentioned above don't get the problem solved, try to uninstall Firefox add-ons by deleting extension file folder manually.

Step 1: Open Firefox, from the top-right corner, click on Menu > HelpTroubleshooting Information.

Step 2: In the Troubleshooting Information tab, click on Open Folder under Application Basics section. You will be guided to open Firefox Profile then double-click on extension folder.

Step 3: Go back to Troubleshooting Information page, scroll down and find Extensions section. Here you will see the corresponding ID of different extensions. Contrast and choose the correct extension in the folder to delete.

Way 4: Remove Firefox add-ons via Registry keys

In this section, we aimed to uninstall global add-ons which are installed into the Firefox installation folder.

Step 1: Press Windows + R key to open Run dialog box, input "regedit" and hit Enter.

Step 2: Navigate to the following Registry keys:

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Mozilla\Firefox\Extensions\
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Mozilla\Firefox\Extensions\

Step 3: Information that you will find including extensions location. Click on File Export, thus you can backup data of extensions.

Step 4: On the Windows Start menu, click File Explorer. Locate the directory you have saved above. Select which one you want to uninstall and click on Delete.
